Can You Wear a Wig During an MRI Scan

What is an MRI?

An MRI is a big machine that doctors use to look inside your body!

What is a Wig?

A wig is hair that you can wear. Some people wear wigs to change their look or if they don’t have hair.

Before the Scan

Doctors usually ask you to take off anything that’s not part of your body.

Why Remove Wigs?

Wigs might have tiny metal parts that can be unsafe in the MRI.

The MRI has super strong magnets that pull on metal, which can be dangerous.

Metal Moves!

To keep you safe, it’s best to take off the wig before the scan.

Safety First

If You Must Wear One

Some wigs have no metal and are safe, but always ask your doctor first!

During the Scan

Without a wig, the MRI can see clearly and check if everything is okay inside.

Once the scan is done, you can wear your wig again right away!
