Preparing for a CT Chest Scan: Dos and Don'ts

What is a CT Scan?

A CT scan uses special X-ray equipment to create pictures of the inside of your body. It helps doctors see how your organs are doing.

Before the Scan

Make sure to listen to your doctor's advice on what to eat and drink before your scan.

Wear Comfy Clothes

On the day of your scan, wear clothes that are comfy and easy to take off, like a T-shirt and pants without metal.

Jewelry Off

Don't wear any jewelry or metal objects. They can mess up the pictures!

It’s always better to have a family member like your mom or dad with you for support.

Bring Your Parent or Guardian

Tell your doctor about any medicines you take. Sometimes, you might need to stop taking them before the scan.

Talk About Medicines

Ask Questions

If you're nervous or have questions, it’s okay to ask. Your doctor is there to help you feel safe.

During the Scan

You'll lie on a table that slides into the scanner. Remember, it's important to stay still to get clear pictures.

What You’ll Hear

The scanner makes buzzing and clicking sounds. It’s just the sound of the machine working.

Once the scan is over, you can usually go back to your normal day. Just follow any other instructions your doctor gives you.
