Preparing for an MRI scan: Steps to follow

What is an MRI?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It's a big machine that helps doctors see inside your body without any surgery!

Before the Scan

Before your scan, make sure you eat normally but avoid wearing any clothes with metal like zippers or buttons.

Remove Metal Items

Take off all metal objects like earrings, watches, and belts because they can interfere with the MRI machine.

Wear Comfy Clothes

Wear comfy clothes without metal parts. Some places give you special clothes to wear during the scan.

Tell your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to medicines, because sometimes they give you a special dye for clearer pictures.

Allergy Check

If your doctor says you need a special dye for better pictures, it’s okay! It just helps them see everything more clearly.

The Special Dye

Listen to Instructions

The MRI staff will tell you how to lie down on the machine's bed and where to put your arms and legs.

Staying Still is Key

While the machine works, you need to stay super still to get the best pictures. It’s just like posing for a photo!

Noises in the Machine

The MRI machine makes loud tapping noises. Sometimes, they give you headphones with music to make it less noisy.

Time in the Machine

The scan can take from 15 minutes to over an hour, depending on what pictures the doctor needs.

Remember, the MRI doesn’t hurt. It's just taking pictures with a lot of sounds around.
