Why Your Hair Clips Can't Join You in an MRI

What Is an MRI?

MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It's a machine that doctors use to look inside your body without surgery.

Super Strong Magnet!

The MRI machine has a huge magnet. It's so strong, it can lift a car!

Metal Detector!

Because the magnet is very powerful, anything metal can be pulled towards it. That’s a big no-no for safety!

Your Hair Clips

Most hair clips have metal in them. If you wore them into an MRI, they could fly off your head!

Inside an MRI, metal objects can move very fast toward the magnet. That could be dangerous.

Flying Objects?

To keep everyone safe, you can’t wear anything metal. No hair clips, no jewelry, not even zippers!

Safety First!

Not Just Clips!

Watches, belts, and even some types of clothing can’t go in because they might have metal.

What to Wear?

When you go for an MRI, wear comfy clothes with no metal, like sweatpants and a t-shirt.

Once you’re free of metal, it’s safe to go inside the MRI machine for your scan.
