How to Tell If You Need Medicine or Just Rest

Listen to Your Body

Pay attention to how you feel. If you're very tired or achy, rest might be the best option.

Check Your Temperature

If you have a fever (over 100.4°F), you might need medicine to help bring it down.

Sore Throat?

A sore throat can sometimes be treated with rest and warm drinks. If it hurts a lot, you might need medicine.

A mild cough can often go away with rest. If it's bad or keeps you up at night, medicine might help.

Coughing a Lot?

Rest and drink plenty of fluids if your stomach feels upset. Medicine can help if you can't keep anything down.

Upset Stomach

For mild headaches, try resting in a quiet, dark room. If it doesn’t go away, medicine can help.

Stuffy Nose

Rest and drink water if you have a stuffy nose. Medicine can help you breathe easier if it’s very bad.

Feeling Better

If you start feeling better after resting, you might not need medicine at all!

If you’re still feeling sick after resting, it might be time to talk to a doctor.
