How does FDG PET scan work?

An FDG PET scan (Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography scan) is a type of medical imaging test that uses a small amount of a radioactive substance, called FDG, and a special camera to create detailed images of the inside of the body. The FDG is taken up by cells that are actively using glucose, such as cancer cells, and the camera detects the emitted radiation to create the images. The images can help doctors diagnose and monitor conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders.
